What to do after an auto accident
- Identify the nearest safe location
- Move your vehicle to identified location
Check for Injuries
- Always check to make sure there are no injuries so you know how to proceed when calling 911
Call 911
They will advise if they need to respond. Absolutely contact the police if;
- If It’s a hit and run
- If the other party attempts to leave the scene without providing their information
- If there are injuries
- If it is apparent that liability will be disputed
Take Photos
If you have a camera, make sure to take pictures of;
- Vehicle damage
- Scene of the accident
- All parties involved
Exchange Information
You will need all of the following information from every party involved in the accident:

- Name

- Home Address
- Driver’s license Number
- Auto Insurance carrier / policy number
Auto Information
- Year of car
- Make of car
- Model of car
- License plate number (including state)
Witness Information
It is important to obtain information from any eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident.
DO NOT Admit Fault
You do not want to admit any fault. However, fully cooperate with the authorities and obtain their information and the police report number.
Take Notes – Document
It’s a good idea to write down details about the loss while it’s still fresh in your mind. Include as many details as possible, such as;
- The direction the vehicles were traveling
- How fast the vehicles were traveling
- Did anyone brake, use their horn or try to avoid the accident?
- What were the road conditions like?
- Was the road wet?
- Was it foggy or raining?
- Was traffic heavy or light?
